PowerSpec Reviewer's Comments

The PowerSpec 7121 has many of the components we looked for at the base price including a gigabyte of RAM, a large 250 GB hard drive and a DVD burner. However, you cannot purchase a monitor or a printer through PowerSpec. You would have to purchase those separately to create a complete package.

Processor:

This PowerSpec comes with a 2.8 GHz Pentium D processor. This processor is sufficient for all of your home computing programs like production software and photo editing. The dual core will run multiple programs at one time without performance lags.

Memory:

The 7121 comes standard with plenty of storage in the 250 GB hard drive. There is enough room for all of your application and adequate room for photos and video clips.

The gigabyte of RAM that comes with the 7121 will run all home computing programs with ease. However, if you plan to upgrade to Vista, Microsoft recommends two GB of RAM for the best experience.

Video/Audio:

This home computer has integrated graphics and video, which means the video and audio rely on system RAM instead of having their own memory. This is ok for most home applications; however, you will notice lag in more demanding graphics, like while playing games.

I/O Device:

You won’t have to add a lot of components to the PowerSpec—it comes with a DVD burner, media card reader, mouse, keyboard and speakers. This is a good option if you already have a monitor because you can’t purchase a monitor through PowerSpec.

Value/Price:

This computer starts at $699.99 and there is a $28.10 shipping charge. It includes everything you need except for a monitor and printer. You will have to purchase these separately.

Support/Warranty:

PowerSpec offers a one–year parts and labor warranty. You can contact the company for technical support and purchasing help by phone and email. There is also some basic information on the web.

Summary:

If you already own a monitor and printer, this wouldn’t be a bad package. We were especially impressed with the amount of memory the PowerSpec comes with. If you’re going to be playing games or using applications that require demanding graphics, we would recommend something with dedicated graphics memory.
