Emachines, from Gateway Inc., is known for producing quality economy PCs for students and those who don’t need the best, biggest and fastest. Emachines also builds a decent home computer that gives you everything you need for home use—minus the printer.
The downside to the eMachines T5212 is the slower processor; it has a 533 MHz bus speed.
Processor:
The eMachines has a 2.66 Intel Pentium D processor. The Pentium D is dual core so it can process more information before experiencing a drop in performance. This processor has a slower bus speed, at 533 MHz, than many of the other home computers.
Memory:
This PC comes with a GB of memory and a 200 GB hard drive. The memory is adequate for home use and 200 GB is a lot of storage, but slightly smaller than most of the computer’s hard drives in this review.
Video/Audio:
The eMachines has integrated video and audio. For most home computer users, this is fine, but if you want to play games with intricate graphics or use other graphic–demanding programs, it will lag.
I/O Device:
The eMachines system has everything you need for home computing except for a printer, which is unavailable through eMachines. We added a monitor for an additional $209.99.
Value/Price:
The price for the total package, including a monitor, is $729.98. At this price, the eMachines is a good option and will run all of your basic home programs.
Support/Warranty:
The eMachines computer has a one–year parts and labor warranty. You can contact customer support by phone, email or chat.
Summary:
This is a good computer if you want to spend less on a home PC. Emachines doesn’t customize computers so the components and specs you see are what you get.
