The CPU will accomplish what I need it to do.

The central processing unit (CPU), also known as the processor, performs all the instruction, logic and mathematical processing in a computer. The better and faster the processor the faster software will load and run.

The RAM is sufficient that it will run my programs smoothly.

Programs use the random-access memory (RAM) to perform necessary tasks. The larger the RAM, the more programs you can run at one time. This is essential to run antivirus and antispyware software in the background while you are surfing the web.

The hard drive is large enough that it will store all of my information and programs.

The larger the hard drive the more information it will hold. You will need a large hard drive to edit videos and to store photos. A good economy PC comes with at least a 160 GB hard drive.

This computer has an adequate sound card.

If you're going to do anything that requires sound (music and video editing, gaming, etc.) you will need a sound card.

The package comes with a monitor that will suit my needs.

Many towers include a monitor, but some don't. The monitor should be large enough that it doesn't cause eyestrain and LCD (flat panel) monitors take up much less space than their prehistoric counterparts, the CRT monitors.

The computer has an adequate graphics card.

The graphics card allows the PC to deliver video. The better the graphics card, the better the graphics. If you're going to do video editing or gaming, consider upgrading the graphics card.

The package comes with a printer that will suit my needs.

Some computers come with a printer, some don't. The best packages come with an all-in-one printer, copier and scanner-very handy for the home office.

The computer has a modem.

If you want to surf the web you'll need a modem. The type of modem can determine the Internet speed. Some are built into the tower while some sit outside the tower.

The manufacturer or dealer offers ample support.

Manufacturer support is very important if you have a question or need technical assistance. Make sure the manufacturer or dealer offers support in the form of email, phone, live chat and documentation.

The PC comes with a comprehensive warranty on parts and labor.

You'll be glad to have a warranty if something breaks. Most computers come with at least a 1-year warranty and extended warranties can be purchased.

The package comes with or I have the appropriate cables to set up the system.

Appropriate cables may include a printer cable, a power strip and phone line or cable to connect the Internet.

The desktop package comes with the needed software to operate the computer and other valuable software.

The PC should come with an operating system. Operating systems vary from Windows to Mac. Make sure the operating system fits your needs. Also, some computer packages come with word processors, security software and other programs. If it doesn't, you'll have to buy the software separately.

The computer package comes with or I have other useful accessories.

Other useful accessories may include a mouse pad, headphones, disks, furniture, cleaning tools, etc.
